1979 911 SC buying help
I've been looking at a 1979 911 SC with a Strosek WB kit. Asking $17,800.
Here is some info on the car. 1979 911 SC VIN ID: 9119301937 Engine # : 6392651 Mileage: Unknown They claim 80k on body and $10k on motor. Engine: It has decent records up until 2000. At that point there is no record of maintenance or any work done since then. Apparently the engine has been rebuilt, although there was mild documentation on the build. (Not enough to determine the rebuild was done) I drove the car, the engine felt strong. No smoking at all. The odometer only read 20k KM. (doesnt seem accurate, obviously) I know the car is ROW as well. Body: The paint job is probably 7/10. It was repainted Ferrari Yellow. Has some chips and cracks near the trunk seems in the paint. Now, apparently a Strosek Wide Body kit was installed in italy, the only documentation is a brochure. I know probably many 911 owners frown on the WB kit, but honestly i think it is very unique. The lack of documentation does worry me a bit. I am very mechanically inclined, so fixing engines, etc does not scare me. I am new to these cars. But as soon as i drove it, it was amazing and like nothing ive driven before. Also, im trying to track the history and i am running into a dead end. Porsche dealer cant help me, carfax. nothing... I would like some advice from the Porsche community regarding the car. What is it worth and what would you do? Note: Today or tomorrow, I will put it on a lift and give it a more detailed inspection. Thanks. Here are some pics. ![]() ![]() ![]()

BTW: the interior is very clean, it has aftermarket race seats installed. everything else is original.

That is quite a lot of money for a car with so many unknowns.
I have a tendency to believe the worst when looking at a car. #1. If it has a body kit, it must have been hit hard enough to deserve having one. I have seen some very nice 3.2l cars for sale for that kind of money and some really nice SCs. I would keep shopping, but that is just me. Welcome to the forum, there is a wealth of information here!

That's not a very popular body kit. So to pay a premium for it is a mistake, IMO. (~$18K for an SC is a premium price)

Funny post of the day.
All I see that's original is the glass. maybe the engine. BTW, you cannot do a Carfax on a car older than 81. It must have a 17 digit VIN. |
