MIK911:

How difficult was it lowering your 911. What did it entail? I am thinking of doing the same thing once I decifer Bentley and figure out my smoking problem.

Cool

I had the work done professionally, by Steve Alarcon's main disciple from Johnson's Alignment here in the Los Angeles area. (Alarcon is supposedly the guru of P suspension/alignment here). Besides the lowering, shocks, Turbo tie rods, he also replaced the rear spring plate bushings, installed Bump Steer Kit, rolled my front fenders, and of course aligned and corner balanced the car. Must say, it handles like a whole different car now

So who is Steve Alarcon's main disciple? I need his services. Thanks.

Try Darren at West End Alignment in the same neighborhood. He used to be the Porsche guy at Johnson's until he struck out on his own. Haven't used him though since he did mine at Johnson's, but it's always good to have competition; keeps everyone alert.

Mike,
Were the 7 by 16's from the rear and moved to the front or were they purchased special for your front offset? I tried a pair of 7's that were at a local Porsche shop and they hung at least an inch outside the wheel well. Rolling the lip would have done nothing to help. My 1987 911 is lowered front and rear and I'd like to put the rear 7's up front. Right now I have got 6 and 7's on the car now but am putting a pair of 8's I picked up on the rear shortly.

thanks for the post, I go in tomorrow

Over the last week, I called several places to see if they'd lower my car. All said "Nopers, don't do porsches"

So I just called Johnson's and My appt is tomorrow. 350 for lower and alignment. I'll let you know how it turns out. Been meaning to do this for a while!

Darren at West End Alignment (310)808-9233 is the guy who did my work. He was Alarcon's main Porsche guy and worked at Johnson's Alignment for 14 years. I initally went and spoke to Alarcon, who quoted me $350, but i didn't care for his attitude. Maybe i caught him on a bad day, but i felt like my questions were a nuisance to him. It's like he's the Porsche Guru, and knows it, and shows it.
Besides, Alarcon wasn't going to do my work--one of his 4-5 Porsche 'guys' would've done the work.

Darren is a very easy going guy, and was a pleasure to work with.

Fuch 7's

jtratza,
Fuchs 16x7 are interchangable from front<-->rear. My 7's (front) were formerly Schoobee's (fellow PPBB member)rear wheels. Not sure why your 7's didn't fit the front. In fact, i believe it's a common upgrade to move your 7's from rear-->front, and get 8 or 9's for the rear.
I previously had 15's (7+8), before changing to 16's.
btw, just curious--where, and how much did you get the 8's? I found it very difficult to find a set, and markup$$ is high. Finally found a set on ebay for $450, and had Al Reed do his magic with painting and polishing.

Mike,
I'm beginning to think that the 7's I tried up front were not off a 911 or were aftermarket. I have not tried the 7's on the rear of my car up front yet but will shortly. Even the 6's with 205 Yoke's have caught the fender lip at least once. The 8's I got came from SC Repair here in Houston. They had a set someone was trading in for an upgrade to 17's and came with almost new tires for $600. Sounds like you got a good price on yours. Mine still need to be refinished.
