Oil pressure gauge needle bouncing
Hi everyone:
I have a 1985 911 Carrera and the oil pressure needle started to bounce erratically. Sometimes it stuck past the number 5 in the scale and when decelerating it went down. I changed the oil pressure sender for a new one and it cleared the problem for a while, then started again. Now when I accelerate and the needle reaches the number 4 in the scale it bounces up and down. If I maintain the pressure about 4 it remains normal, no bounce. What can be happening? Any help would be appreciated and thanks for your attention. |

These German pressure gauges and sending units have a reputation for jerky movement. "They" say that for truly precise and reliable oil pressure readings you need to use a mechanical gauge. It may help to just make sure your electrical connections are excellent.

It sounds like your sender is still working OK, but as Superman said I would check the connections and wires associated with the gauge.

I had the problem with both pressure and temp gauge, with a "sticky" needle and erratic movements... I fixed it by blowing the mecanism with a computer air bomb (carefully!), and dropping a tear of 3in1 oil on the axis of the needle. To do that, I previously put the tear on a sewing (I suppose it's the right word) needle, and then put this needle on the axis; by capillarity, the oil "jump" to the axis...
I do not know if it will solve your problem, but it did solve mine
