Jumping tach and photo of my car!

Hello All,

Where is the pick up for the Tach on a 930/911?
I heard it is in the dist. ? Are there visable contacts I can clean or is this electronic? My Tach is jumping whenever it gets in the mood. So I was thinking it would be the pick up. OR If someone else has and idea please feel free...

Nice 930! My tach was jumping around a lot too. I was told I would have to send to a gauge shop to get rebuilt. I ended up installing a tach adapter when I put an MSD ignition system in. That cleared it right up and it works perfect now. I am not all knowing by any means, but the wiring harness on the CD box has a tach wire, and the magnetic pickup comes off the distributor going to the same clip. I can't tell you why mine wasn't working before, or if yours is even the same as mine (years older). But mine was not a gauge problem. So be sure you check the connections before you spend the money getting it rebuilt, as that may not even help. Wish I could be a more specific help.

I don't have a 930, but when my tach started jumping around, I was told by this board to check my points and clean it. If your 930 still uses points that would be the first thing to try and clean. Good luck.

If those are polished, I need to work on my wheels...

I think they're chromed. You'd need to work for days on your wheels to get 'em that shiny.
