Whining Noise in the front of my 911

I have a 1987 911 and there is a whining noise in the front under the hood... sounds like the whine from a pump - been going on for sometime and does not seem to effect the running of the car... is this something to be concerned about or is this a normal noise? I am wondering if this may be the fuel pump making this noise?

I had an annoying whining sound coming from my car. It went away when I turned the radio off. Turned out to be Sean Hannity - some joker had changed the station on me.

Some level of buzzing is normal... Some pumps whine louder before dying, OR when the tank is low on gas and it's pretty hot outside. If that's not it, peek under the car, remove the cover plate that hides the pump and steering stuff, see if the pump possibly contacts the plate or its rubber mounting are not so rubbery anymore. All that could transmit more bad vibes/noise.

then again, if it's the original pump, call it a day and order a new one. $200 + 10 minutes of work (if you can access it easily) sure beats waiting for a tow truck in a bad part of town !

Greg - thanks - just what I thought - think I'll order a new pump before it goes out - couldn't hurt...

Have a good day....

clogged fuel filters can make for a noisy pump.

could also be the fresh air fan too if it is coming from behind the dash

Friend who's a pilot bought a fuel pump because it got really noisy.

Said that the pump (ordered from P******) cost more than the pump for his Cessna.
