Ducktail - do you use stock support strut?

Full of questions today...

This one is for owners with ducktails.

Do you use the support strut with your fibreglass ducktail? Or do you rely on the trusty cut-off broomhandle?

I'll be getting a ducktail for my soon-to-be-picked-up '85 Carrera and I'd like to use a strut, but I've heard this may not be a good idea as it puts excessive pressure on the tail.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Dallas

My struts were too strong for the f/g lid. would have knocked yourself out if you weren't quick to move :p
The trusty broomhandle works a treat
My original lid weighed a lot more than a f/g duck, but it was a turbo tail

I use a stock strut with my ducktail and have for the last 5 years or so. Works fine for me.

Bought my car 19 years ago and still have the same struts on them.

Use the stock strut for the FG duck. Works great and is not too strong for it.

I dumbed mine down - had a brand new strut on my decklid prior to installing ducktail - ended up mounting an older strut that had a little less "umph"for DT. Works fine after 2 years....

I had 600 N strut with a "teatray" now with ducktail 200 N strut from general part store, works just fine.

stock oem struts with my duck
I tried the hd weltmiesters, and they were too strong, I could not close the lid without some fg deflection.
