Transmission Leak between Front Cover/Gear Housing (915)
Car developed a transmission leak at the track this weekend. Looked like hte paper gasket tore/ripped and a small piece was pushed out (??) letting my previous fluid leak out. I patched it with some silicon to help slow the leak down for now but it's still there.
It appears the part number is 915-301-351-00. Is this something a DIY'er can do or does it require dropping the engine/transmission? Thanks for any and all help! |

Tranny does have to come out to repair but this would be an easy fix once it's out. Engine removal can be a DIY project.

those newspaper thin gaskets can be squeezed out if too much sealer is applied. when the nuts are tightened, the sealer squeezes out and takes the gasket with it. i like K&W coppercoat spray. let it tack up before squeezing.

We don't even use the paper gaskets anymore and just use Loctite 574. The 915 isn't like the 901/911 where the paper gasket is actually a pinion shim. On the 915 you can remove them and replace with a modern sealant.
However, as was mentioned, it will have to come out to fix it.
