What bushings will I need if I'm putting Carrera sways bars on my 79SC?

Swapping out my stock 79 SC sway bars to later Carrera 22mm/21mm sway bars. Tony told me I'd need new bushings. I'm not sure which ones to order though.

I heard and read that beyond bushings, you'll need new brackets welded on the body for those sways as well.

I made this mod and bought new bushing from our host. Ordered the ones for the bar not the car. It is a very easy change to make and noticeable improvement.

I am to believe that these won't need any mods like that, but I would if I used any of the adjustable ones.

Do you remember which bushings/sizes they were? Part number or link to the ones on Pelican? There are various sizes and the SC used smaller ones than the Carrera I believe. Good to hear it's a noticeable improvement.

Oregonmon (Ryan) is installing the 22/21 mm Carrera sway bars on his SC. I've done this upgrade on many SC's including '76 & '77 cars. There is no need for welding a sway bar mounting brackets unless the original brackets are broken or simply wanted to upgrade the brackets. My '78SC (track car) has these Carrera sway bars installed more than 10 years ago and still going strong.

BTW, I had another SC done last week for a Pelican member from NJ. The earlier 911 that uses U-bolts for the rear sway bars definitely needs a new welded bracket. HTH.

911-343-881-00-M136 for the 22mm front and 477-411-313D-M1000 for 21mm rear.

You shouldn't need new brackets however check your's out. There is a tendency, in our cars, for the rear brackets to break away from the chassis. The bigger bars will put additional stress on the rear brackets so if you spend a lot of time on the track keep an eye on them or go ahead and replace them with beefer brackets.

Super guys, thanks a lot. Wow, Tony this is what you use for your track car? I am anxious to see what a difference this will make.

Ryan,

If I could offer you a friendly advise, stop doing this suspension upgrade now!!!! Next will be the torsion bars. I like to experiment and installed these front/rear torsion bars combo (from original 19/24 to 21/26;21/27/21/28). I am installing 22/29 now and have a spare 23/30 TB in the garage. It is addictive and contagious.

This is a good suspension upgrade considering the investment involve plus the time to install them. The body roll is significantly improved and you could feel the difference the first time you drive the car.

Good advice. I started with the sway bars and now I'm planning a full suspension refresh later this year. Tony - you wouldn't happen to have 21/28 TBs for sale, would you?

Funny Tony! I'm not a track junkie but more of an autocrosser and street guy. I am going with a refresh though. After much deliberation, I've decided to go conservative. Carrera sways from you, rear torsion bar to 26mm, rubber bushings all replaced, (although I read all the polybronze threads), and factory Bilsteins sent for revalve/rebuild.
If I have some extra cash I'll do the turbo tie rods.
