Can you add a Turbo to a 3.0 SC Motor??
Is it possible to put a Turbo onto a 3.0 SC motor and what all is required in doing so? Has anyone done this?
THanks, James |
Yes.
Many ways to go from a custom with existing injection, using 930 take off system, or custom EFI based system. HP could be from 270 to 700. See this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/523720-help-me-design-grassroots-turbo-conversion-my-sc-3-0l.html |
Sorry i didnt give much details. I have a 1983 911sc Complete Turbo look and want to gain more horsepower without completely going broke! I already have custom heat exchangers, cats removed, bursch exhaust, k&n, so is there a way to bolt on a turbo without much labor?

Probably easyer and cheaper to sell your motor and buy a used 930 motor.
However, see the link above I think your goals might be the same. |
You can turbocharge a lawnmower if you want (and yes, it's been done). The questions are how expensive and how reliable will it be.
With enough time and money, you can do anything. |
Would anything need to be done to the pistons, rods, crank, bearings etc. ? To accommodate the higher horspower ?

There is, however, no "cheap" solution to this unless you can pick up someone's complete project for pennies on the dollar. |
As many have said, yes it can be done and has been done. I am just about to convert my 78 3.0 with a M&K kit which I plan to document here in the next month.
Feel free to email if you have any questions. |
Can you trust yourself not to exceed 5 lbs. boost? With careful attention to details as suggested by sjf911, it should be fine. However, should you be tempted to inject more power by turning up the boost, expect shorter component life (rings, pistons, head sealing).

TRy Tony at Tbitz racing in Ottawa I believe he has done it. He also supplies an EFI kit.
