Megasquirt-V3.57 with dual spark output

Hi
i have the opportunity to buy the above (used) to my 3.2l 1976 targa.
What do u think? Will it make any noticeable change on street drive?

What do i need to know before i start?

Baruch,
I like Megasquirt, but I recommend that you read up on the specifications, tuning procedures, etc.....and tap into the forums to read about others experiences.

Unless you are planning some serious modifications to your engine, I don't think megasquirt will add much over your Motronic controller but will cause you to spend an enormous amount of time and energy retuning your system. MS will allow you to get rid of your "barn door" MAF which may improve throttle response and top end HP slightly but I don't think it would be worth the aggravation.

It depends... there are alot of factors... I use MS V 3.57. It is a breeze to tune with Tuner Studio if you have a good AFR table... the install of EFI and Recurving the Distributor made a world of difference in throttle response. I was coming from CIS however so cant speak to Motronic. Id think that a performance chip would be alot cheaper and less work. May want to seek out Jaime Novak. He is an MS guru and gave me the ARF table that proved to be spot on. He also quickly picked out errors in my install that prevented hours of difficult troubleshooting.

The Motronic EFI on the 3.2 is already a pretty good system which also controls ignition timing and uses low-Z injectors. Changing to MS will require a lot of rewiring, changing to high-Z injectors (or building low-Z fly-back circuits for P&H control or addition of injector resistors), optimally addition of a wideband O2 controller, etc. If going to ITB's, distributorless twin-plug ignition, and/or turbo, it makes some sense.

I agree. I went with ITB's on mine. Not sure if you keep all the motronic fuel hardware, that you are going to gain much by just swapping out the ECU. what problem are you trying to solve? This will be alot more involved than just plugging in a new ECU. Injectors, wiring harness, Wideband, misc will easily add $500 to your ECU costs... also I think that with CIS to EFI or ITB/EFI, there are alot of base maps out there from people who did it. Adding an MS ECU to Motronic Hardware is probably uncharted waters... wont be nearly as easy to tune due to the lack of a DIY knowledge base...

Baruch,
I use a dual plug MegaSquirt system on my turbo engine. I'm very happy with the outcome, both in the drivability as well as the power results. However, I would echo some of the observations above, you would probably be better off with a chip upgrade unless you plan major modifications to the engine. If you end up going with MS, drop me a line and I'll share my most recent configuration.
