speedo bezel

does anyone know if the black metal bezel that holds the glass on our speedometers can be replaced as a DIY, or can it be sent to Hollywood Speedo?

You can remove the bezel by using a jeweler's flat blade screwdriver and GENTLY prying around the edge, on the backside of the speedo.

The problemis that you will have some marks and possibly some uneven portions when done.
Luckily, the rubber gasket that hold the gauge inthe dash will cover those areas.

Do you just need a new bezel? You could paint it with careful taping.

Stone,

If you're in need of replacing the bezel, don't make yourself crazy, send it off and let a professional roll it on. I guarantee you you won't be happy with a DIY job...

I had to open all my gauges up to clean the inside. If you are careful you can do a decent job of removing and replacing the bezel. The problem I had was that one of my bezels had a fair amount of rust on it and wanted to get it to match everything else. So, I bead blasted it and painted it. I don't care what I did I could not get fresh paint to match the rest of the bezels. So, I found a used one that was in good shape from a junk gauge to get it to match. So, if you are worried about matching bezels, either paint them all, find a used one to match or send it off to get it replaced with a factory one.
I found when putting them back on that you can use a tool with a rounded edge, press the bezel lip down with it and rotate the gauge as you do it. If I remember I pushed down with the tool and that forced the gauge onto my formica work bench. I turned the back of the gauge as I did this and it rolled the edge right back into shape, not perfect from behind, but you can't tell I did it with them in the dash. New bulbs, clean glass and you can actually see my gauges now.

Great suggestions, all.

Just to clarify...

The PO previously "removed" the speedo by not-so-gently pulling on the black metal bezel in 3 places...with a pair of pliers.

I don't believe I'm going to be able to track down the bezel separately, although it's possible. I guess I'd probably be better off sending it to someone who actually has the bezel, and the competency to replace it so it looks like new.

Suggestions, as usual, are appreciated.
