These? Or the Victorracer? Or the new 700?

Please be more specific.

I have 712s on my wifes car and it is night and difference than the previous Goddyear RS-A tires. Good God were the RS-As terrible compared the the 712s!

In the future I plan to put the 712s on my SC. Best performance for the dollar IMHO.

I second Adrian's view on the 712's. put them on my '85 Targa this summer to replace the PO's Goodyear Eagle II's. great tire for the $$. talk to the guys at tire rack as well. www.tirerack.com

On that note, anybody tried the new R compound Kumho Ecstas?

I have 712's on my SC and I am VERY happy with them so far. Sure, there are better tires out there...but not for the price! The only other one I would consider (and I have them as well) is the Bridgestone RE730. The Bridgestone is stickier than the 712 but as you might expect, it seems to wear a little quicker than the Kuhmo as well. Nonetheless, I prefer the Bridgestone. They are about $30 a tire more though (depending on your tire size). That said, the Kuhmo's are excellent tires. I think they perform as good or better than most tires twice it's price! At the price, it's a no brainer IMO.

tirerack warned me off of the 730's saying they develop a loud 'yowl' after around 10,000 miles. have you had any of that?
the 730's were my first choice

I just replaced my 712s with the new 700s. I was happy with the 712s but was looking for more of a track tire. I can say I'm very happy with the 700s. They are significantly softer, I easily pick up stones and they lodge deep into the rubber, but the grip is great. Looking forward to trying them on a track in the spring (if they last that long).

Cheers,
jc

steve911:

That hasn't been my experience but I have to say that I have heard a couple other people in other car forums I frequent state something similar (although, by far, the majority seem to give them thumbs up). I'm actually on my 2nd set of Bridgestones (not on my 911). The first set had about 30K on them when I replaced them (not at all bad for a performance tire). The current set has a little of 10K (no problems yet). While performance tires are definitely louder than touring tires, I think the issue may be that the tires may have cupped. The cupping may occur because of lack of rotation (this is obviously pure speculation, since I haven't experienced it). This could be a bigger issue with 911's since rotation is not really an option. I still think the RE730's are fantastic tires for the price.

Don't know about the 10K mile mark. But my RE730's developed a "Yowl" at Willow Springs while doing around 110-115 MPH through turn 8.

I'm blushing :-) These are the Ecsta v700, not the Victoracer v700. They are more of a compromize between the 712 and the Victoracer. Oh ya, and slapped 275's under my back wings. Had to grind the fender lips down to nothing, but damn they look good!

Treadwear of 50 on the ECSTA 700 is pretty harsh! WOW! Compared to the ECSTA 712 with treadwear of 280.

From what I guess those 700s will not make it 10,000 miles...? But JC has soem big balls for trying it!

I am finishing polishing my front rims (16 X 7 fuchs) tonight and would like to try the 712 in either

225/45wr16
or
225/50vr16

does anyone have these or there car or if they will fit
77 (turbo fenders no wheel spacers)

or should I try 205 or 215

I need grip in the front that will last more then 10k miles street car.

thanks,

steve
