Question Heater Hose Questions

I had to fiddle with some wiring behind the drivers side kick-panel carpeting, and noticed that there's a heater/air hose there that comes from the trunk. I'm guessing that it's the hose that runs back to the heater boxes, so heat is transferred to the the defrost fan for heated air.

Unfortunately, I have a windshield leak, and the paper-like hose is in shreds. I can see where it enters the cabin from the trunk, but it disappears into what seems to be an inaccessible area of the rocker. I haven't pulled everything apart yet, but does this paper-like hose run all the way back to the engine compartment? How can it be replaced?

Thanks!

No, you don’t have to go back to the engine compartment. The upstream end of the paper/foil hose is clamped onto a nozzle behind the carpet.

I had a hard time tracking down who sold the hose in the correct diameter. (Pelican might, but from my descriptions over the phone they said they didn’t) Since then, I bought a bunch of it at a swap meet and can send you a section of it.

Yours may be different since it is newer, but mine was connected to the metal tube on the rocker by a hose clamp.

Cheers.

Thanks! So the metal tube must run the length of the rocker, back to the heater box, and this paper hose runs from the connection on the tube coming from the rocker, through the "firewall," and to one of the valves on the defroster mechanism.

I'm sure all of this will become apparent when I get the carpeting pulled out of the car!

Regarding the hoses, I also need some of the small diameter hose that connects some of the defroster valves together.

IXXI - If you do have some of this particular hose, I'd be happy to buy some from you, so thanks for the offer!!! Let me see how much will be required.

Thanks again!!

I’ve got more of the larger diameter stuff than I’m gonna need, so don’t worry about it. Email me with what you need and your address. I can’t help you with the smaller stuff though.

Cool

This hose can be bought from your aircraft parts supplier.

Ask for SCAT tubing. It's sold in various sizes. You can simply fold the end into itself to reduce the size to fit the ducting metal/plastic. It has a wire reinforcement to hold its size. I believe SCAT-10 is the correct size for heater control boxes at the motor and for ducting of the cooling fan. Other sizes would be appropriate for your heating system.

Good luck,
David Duffield
