Question 2.8RSR on ebay???

Well the bug has hit me again. I purchased an '82 SC 6 months ago and my wife comissioned it shortly after purchase. I was originally looking for an early '70s Carrera with a duck tail but couldn't find one in nice shape for a good price. I keep my eyes open on ebay and other spots and came across the following:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=598733543

Seems a bit goofy to me and I thought I would try to solicit a little feedback.

Thanks
Jim

nothing goofy about

0-60 in less than 5 seconds. That's a nice car--certainly nothing at all to laugh at I think!

Who cares if it's a legit Porsche or not. It may be frankensteinian, but if it has it where it counts, in performance, it's worth it.

From the VIN: 9115400282 it was originally a 1975 US Carrera 2.7 with 165 BHP. The original 2.8 RSR was based on the 1973 2.7RS.

The motor has obviously been seriously upgraded with 92mm pistons and home-made dual ignition, but runs on Webers not the correct RSR mechanical fuel injection (MFI).

Judging by the size of the rear tyres in the side view it looks like a dragster to me.

The only 2.8 RSR bit is the capacity.

I don't know where he got the airplane bit but i have an Electromotive ignition just like that on my car. If the wheels are genuine 9/11 X 15 Fuchs then they rutinely go for $5000 when available.
Like Nick says there is nothing "RSR" about it unless some moron took off the MFI, put on those "waiver" (sic) carbs and removed the Bosch ignition. He says he spent 50k on it though so my only question is, on what?

Hello

This is more the SC RS look.

Some good parts are in the package but I would ask if the 9 & 11 are geninue Porsche rims.

Also the rerar tires are damn expensive today so some restprofile would be nice ( OK if you hit the loud pedal they will fade fast ).

Also on what base is that engine built up ?
A 2,8 on a 2,7 7R case will not survive very long.

Other tidbits.

Still to much wight in the car and to small barkes to handle the power on the race track so this car was never used in a other way then keeping straigt and accel hard at the lights.

Key has a new MY lightet head. Car has never been a wreck ? says not accident free.?

The '74 is a bit more in my price range. If you can, please e-mail me some more info and pics if possible.

Thanks

Hello

60 K$ for a Touring is similar to europe price level but not sure if the car can be compared to euro condition level.
# 360 0493 was delivered in tangerine

RE: the Ebay car...

It looks like he spent some money on it, I have a feeling the engine build sheet would be interesting. Even if it really is a properly built RSR engine, it most likely won't be California legal.
