Front Valence question

Is there a difference between a turbo front valence and a regular front valence for an SC?

equality72521 04-19-2010 03:41 AM

Yes, one is wider but I can't remember which.

sancho 04-19-2010 04:08 AM

I thought turbo one is lower and wider than stock SC of the same era.

valence

Here is a pic of my front end before i tore it apart for paint. As you can see the front valence is mangled a bit from a raccoon at 60mph. Also notice in the driver corner how it is pulled down a bit. So I bought another valence here on pelican and plugged the fog light hole and refinished it. I went to instal and now the new one is pulled down in both corners similar to the way it is in the pic. I had a one heck of time getting the smile to fit. A few new holes had to be drilled and when installing it it pulls the cornes down. I have it installed now and it does not look that great. I have not taken a pic yet because the rest of the car is still being put together.

I have switched the two interchangably on my 77 930, replacing my oem (with fogs) to as SC blank (without fogs).
All the holes and dimensions were the same. The only difference on mine was the rubber lip.

sorry, I think the above is wrong. I must have been sold a blank 930 valance.
pet lists the following:
911 503 971 00 - 74-89
911 503 971 01 - 76 930
930 503 049 00 - 77-79 930
930 503 971 00 - 86-89 930

from what i have read on here the turbo will be too wide for the sc. i am hoping to find an 84+ front valence (with recessed fogs) for my sc as well. if you go this route you will need the correct fogs and the windshield washer bottle as well.

any ideas?

here is what it looks like on the car.
Is this not the correct valence or has the rubber shurnk?

The metal valence is the same, only the rubber spoiler is different.

A Carrera valence will bolt up also, but on an SC you need to change to a Carrera windshield washer reservoir.

one or the other

A little background for you al. My car is an 79sc with a widebody conversion. Front valence was damage by a raccoon at 60mhp.

I bought a used one and plugged the fog light hole and painted. Upon install the rubber chin went on so hard it pulled the outside corners down.
One of two things are for sure. Either the rubber on my chin has shrunk or I have the wrong valence. The chin bolts right up to the car and is a perfect fit.

No they aren't. From what I've read, the turbo metal valence is actually narrower than the n/a version. The chin spoiler takes up the rest.

Also, they are not interchangeable. The valence on an SC is larger then the valence for the 930 turbo (being the 930 chin spoiler is so much larger then the SC chin spoiler).

If the turbo valence is indeed narrower as thought by Michael then that may just be the problem. If the turbo valence is indeed an inch more narrow that would explain it.

Not sure if I should be buying/borrowing a new peice of rubber or a new peice of metal........

Any one have difinitive information on this?

Hey

I just looked at a couple pics of the valence on an sc and carrera as well as a 930.

One easy way to see the difference is that the n/a cars' valences are long enough to continue the line of the fender arch coming down as well as the bumper's mating. The fender, bumper and valence form a single line. This makes sense as not all of the n/a cars have the chin spoiler, and therefore have to look right with or without it.

However, ALL 930s have the chin spoiler, and it is the chin spoiler that completes that line as well as introducing the leading edge of the flare.

I don't know exactly why it was done that way, but maybe the rubber is lighter or more resilient to the amount of wind pressure and the force of debris that must hit that thing constantly without denting or having any paint to be sandblasted.

Hope thathelps a bit more.

Michael
