Problem with left side window

Problem with left side window.
Door closed: window will close but leaves a gap at the top (~ 1/4".) If I then open the door, the window will jump up to fully closed.

Door open: window opens and closes properly. (even with moderate applied resistance.)

Any ideas would be welcome.

Sounds like the frame is tweaked a little when closed. Check door gap for eveness.

Thanks, I'll look into that a little closer.
I do find that the right side window motor feels a little stronger than the left.

if your frame seems ok, check the regulator spring. The pin that maintains some compression may have broken off, so the motor might not be getting any spring assist.

Dan,

I'm not familiar with the door innards but looking at the parts diagram is that a spiral hairspring on the bracket? Can the pin you had referred to be replaced or the whole assembly?
Thanks again,
Bob

I'm on a mobile, so I can't see if it's displayed whether you have a targa or not, but it sounds like you do.

If it is a targa, on the seal that covers the targa bar itself, is the cloth covering over the rubber where it presses against the rear of the window still intact, or is it like mine and it is "naked" rubber. What might be going on is that since you notice that it seems a bit slower than the other one, it might not be able to overcome the friction that the rubber produces.

I'm about to have all of the seals for my targa top replaced. Right now, I kind of have a similar situation. When rolling the window up, it does not end up inside of the small channel on the side seals of the targa top, and when I open the door, the window jumps up another 1/4-1/2". Maybe adjusting the side seals out and toward the rear of the car will help.

Hope this helps a bit.

Michael

Yes, that's the one (spiral). It has a replaceable center pin, but I had to make my own external pin out of a T-nut, short bushing and 1/4-20 bolt. (if in fact yours fell out). This would affect the motor umpf. The motors themselves are very hardy.

If you don't have an interference issue like UrQuattro suggested, you're back to loose/misaligned frame. One candidate you could check is a smallish (2x3 inch?) L-shaped bracket at the bottom of the front frame - they can snap in half and affect window out/in position. pn 911-542-061-00

the pic shows the part that broke at the bottom and some hw I used to replace it.

I did find that the bracket was cracked. I should have checked, I had changed the right side awhile back but that window was making a racket. The part will be available on Tuesday.
I'll poke around tonight; see if repositioning the frame helps.
Thanks again.
Bob
