Another power window dilema

RH power window moved slow sometimes. Was working fine the other day then just stopped. LH window works fine. Neither rh window switches work (driver side or the rh side) Checked the fuse its good, relay is good, took the 1 working switch and moved it around to the "dead" switches, still nothing. I can hit the rh window switches and it's pulling power because the inside dome lights slightly dim.

Then today (3days later) the rh window worked from the drivers side passenger switch for about 20 min. I took the rh side switch apart and cleaned it still nothing. what I thought was a power window motor has turned into my worst nightmare. Random electrical issues. I'm much better when it's just replacing a part.

Please help. Any ideas where or what to check? Oh by the way it's a 79 930

The window mechanism may be binding, which caused the slowness at first, and would also explain the light dimming.
Maybe a disassembly of the window regulator, cleaning, and lubing are in order...

Makes sense I'll try that sunday. But that still wouldn't explain why only one switch was working this morning. Thanks. Anyone know if and where the grounds are for the window system. I would also like to check them.

Ryan,

According to our Bentley, for our '86, here is the schematic, and ground location for the power windows.

This may or not be applicable for your year/model.

I would be looking at contact #4 on the driver's side passenger window switch.

Good luck,

Gerry

Some of the colors are different but I think this will be a great help (assuming the grounds are in the same location). THANKS!

I really hate electrical gremlins

My windows were intermittent, there are bulkhead plugs the wires out of the door plug into the outer fender and continue on to their destination. I cleaned mine and everything is right with the world ( to my car ) .

Thank you I'll also try this.

Pull the switches out of the doors and clean all of the connections. You can also try spraying some contact cleaner into the switch itself. I just had this exact slow PS window problem problem on my SC. In my case the switch on the DS door needed to be replaced. Cleaning the contacts has worked in the past but this time around no luck...I guess 29 years of use finally took its toll.
If you have to replace the switch get the Genuine Porsche switch not the cheaper "OEM" or aftermarket switches.
