alarm power usage
 

I have an 85 Coupe with a Clifford alarm. It has a blinking red light when armed. If I dont drive the car for a while...say a couple weeks or more...how long before the (new) battery would go dead....any thoughts from others with alarms?

I have a clifford, without the start cutout, in my car and you can go for weeks without an issue. The blinking light is just a led with very very little current draw.

On the other hand, we have another p-car in the family with non-clifford (?black jack?) can't remember the brank and it will suck down a good battery in 4 to 6 weeks.

The time inerval you mention almost necessitates a trickle charger/battery maintainer like the Schumacher 'Battery Companion.' A related discussion is:

Thanks guys.... I think the battery tender sounds like a good idea here in the NW for the winter months when I may only drive the car once a month until Spring.

I just removed a old Clifford from 1978 vintage. It drew 600ma. I replaced it w/Viper. Bought it from Rod Birch. I liked his "special notes" for my '77. Before that battery would last 2 weeks. Do take seriously Early S Man

Clifford are well desinged and will draw under 0,001 amps/hour
( ask there help desk for specific number or messure yourself ).

So you will loose some 0,03 amp/day thats 30 amps in 100 days.
A rule is that a battery will start a engine with some 30-50% from the total capasity ( sp? ).

Porsche sold trickle chargers and they had a hughe demand on them in the 90s ( 964/993/928 ). They always had a winterspecial in germany where they sold time in a wintercheckup service.
Last time i bought them they had been at 35 $ 12V and 45$ 6V.
We always tuned them with the little Porsche crest from the illuminatet key ;) ( X-mas giffaways ).

Bad thin is they runed only on european 220V and the external cord was to short for most garages.

Sweden versions could be ordered with built in unit who honked the alarm when someone cutet the wire. ( never seen that but it was mentioned in a tech article about the alarm system ).
