Stone guard install question?
 

Question: Do you remove the molding and install the lower section of the stone guard under the molding or line the stone guard up with the top of the molding?

Edit: More info. Rear OEM stone guard decals located on the rear qtr. fenders.

I have the same question, because the OEM stone guard's shape does not seem to fit. What I have read elsewhere on this forum is that you place the bottom of the guard under the rocker's rubber trim strip, and right over the cap for the torsion bar access. The issue is, why is the OEM piece such an odd shape to begin with?

There are different stoneguards for SC and turbo. The "turbo stoneguard" does not fit SC just right. The stoneguard have to tilt a bit forward to fit the wheel arch. On my SC the "SC stoneguard" fitted just right.

Hello ja78911sc.....Yes, you need to pull back the black rubber molding..
 

You do not need to take the entire rubber molding off to install the stone guards, but you will need to pull about a foot off of the metal lip that holds it in place. It is easy to do. You want the bottom of the stone guard under the rubber molding. Hope this helps.

Once upon a time I had the turbo stone guards on my Carrera and I thought they looked good and fit well. I no longer have them on my car, but here is a picture.

The key is to put the back edge of the guard right on the 'crease' where the fender transitions to the 'flat' rim around the wheel opening.

The guard can be slightly under the rubber rocker moulding.

I personally don't like the way they look, but I like what they do, so I have clear guards on my SC.

Thanks for the replies guys. tcar, I don't really care for the look either. The reason I am installing the guards is because I have six years of track rash that I need to cover.:)

Any one installed the stone guard on a black 911 SC? Wonder how it looks.

I would love to see it. May not be obvious but could be a good effect.

Buckterrier has the right idea. You can take a rubber kitchen spatula or popsickle sticks and help the top of the rubber rub strip to have a "stand-off"...so the guard can be placed slightly below.

I used Ray Allens "Wingwalk" material, a black pebble grain of suitable thickness used to walk on airplane wings. The only thing I found that came close to OEM. I then cut a pattern that was close to "Turbo"....but shaped just a smidge differently to (yep)....cover a bad road rash chip somewhat high.
