Rear windshield trim on 88, 80--Plastic or Metal?

EDIT: title should say 88 and 89

Upon changing my rear window seal on an 88 I noted the trim that fits in the seal is plastic. New trim doesn't appear to be available.

Is this stock? I have only seen metal but a forum member assures me his 88 and 89 have plastic trim.
