SC no start

I'm sitting here in my SC after driving it down to Denver this morning. Parked about 5 minutes, now all I hear when I turn the key to start is the whirr of the fuel pump. Electrics work if checked, but I've turned them off after that. I let her cool down a bit, still no crank of the starter.

Any things to check before calling in the Calvery? Could a starter wire hav. Worked loose? If so, can I get to it at roadside?

Oh, I only have a slow 3g connection here, so sorry if my preliminary search missed the answer.

I would first check battery connections: Open the posts, apply some Vaseline and reconnect.

If the battery is good, you should at least hear the starter Solenoid clicking.

Sometimes the Solenoid plunger gets stuck due to heat and waiting 1/2 an hour will cool it enough to engage.

If by any chance the yellow wire from ignition switch to Solenoid is disconnected, you'd have to go underneath and check.

BTW: On any SC, the pump should not run with ignition ON. Sounds like the Airflow Contact may not be connected? That should not prevent the Solenoid or starter from working though.

Thanks, gunter! rechecked the battery connections; the red one looked ok but felt a little loose. After removing and retightening, she started right up!

Alright.

Prevent oxidation of the posts by using dielectric grease or Vaseline.

As preventive maintenance, check the negative cable connection from battery to the body on the left fender. The bolt can get very rusty. Open it, clean all wire ends, use lube and re-connect.
