Smile Porsche Poster Garage & Basement Decorating

The bad weather here yesterday kept me indoors so I spent some quality time in the garage and basement. Like I frequently do, I found myself just sitting and staring at the factory Porsche Posters (30"x40") which I have hung on the walls in both rooms.

Anybody else have this addiction? Fortunately my wife understands that I have no control when it comes to factory posters so I just keep adding to the collection.

I know I can't be the only one so let us know how many you have in your collection and which one is your favorite.

Right now mine stands at 50 and my favorite is of the '84 1000km of SPA which I had autographed at the Rennsport Reunion this summer by N. Singer, J. Ickx and D. Bell.

Happy motoring!

From Doug Z to Doug E

I hate to complicate and increase your addiction Doug, but if you're a hopeless poster junkie you need to go here: http://www.vpracing.com

(I've bought from these folks. Very satisfied.)

I have a friend who has over 300 factory posters! He's been collecting them since the early 70's. I don't have any factory posters but I do have a special 'LeMans' movie poster. It's a large version (3 x 4 feet) of the one that was handed out by the Gulf gas stations. This one adorned the front window of my local Gulf station way back when. My other favorite is the freebie poster sent to me by Porsche about 10 years ago? showing a 930 airborne with my last name printed on the rear license plate. Seinfeld has one of these on his apartment wall in some episodes.

Thumbs up

Doug Z - thanks for the link. All I can say to those prices are ... WOW! It warms my heart to know that I found some of my posters for $5 or $10 at swap meets and on e-bay. Real nice website, though, which is now bookmarked.

Cegerer - I agree that the LeMans Gulf poster is a keeper. The big one must look great ... unfortunately I only have the small one. Sometimes I find myself watching the re-runs of Seinfeld just to look for the Porsche memorbilia.

I went to a Seinfeld 'concert' Saturday night. He always takes questions at the end and I was hoping to surprise him with a Porsche question like "what do you like better: your 73 Carrera RS or your 67 911R?" or "Are Porsches manufactured after 1973 really Porsches ?" Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance and he had to answer some REALLY dumb questions from the audience!

On the Gulf poster: I think I totally ruined the value of it many years ago. Originally, it had a border around it and on the bottom said "Get Your Free 17"x22" McQueen LeMans Poster Here!" or something like that. In my youthful wisdom, I decided to cut that off! I still enjoy the poster though. -- Curt

I too suffer from this addiction, along with a collection of scale models. But I have not been able to restrict my posters to Porsche only. I probably have over 100 sports racing and F1 posters. One of my favorites is the factory poster commemorating the 1998 LeMans win. I got it at the FIA-GT racee at Homestead, FL in '98. They were giving them out free and had the factory drivers out signing them.

Races are definitely the best place to get posters. They are usually free and are not typically available for sale. Unless someone puts them up on ebay. Someday maybe they will be worth the price of my factory 550 Spider speeed record poster which I saw go for a big price at auction a couple of years back.
