Charging Sonnenschein Batteries?

I have (2) Sonnenschein 512 40 batteries in my 1972 911T.

Can I do this with any basic charger? Or do I need something specific?

Do the batteries need to be taken out of the car and charged individually? Or can they be charged in the car the way they are set up?

Can anyone give me some info on the charging process for these batteries.

Thanks.

Ian

At least disconnect the grounds.....I'd hate to fry an electrical part upstream.

Removing them lets you inspect underneath for leakage. Your choice.....

I do keep them in and connected when using a very low voltage Battery Tender.

I have three Kenetik batteries in my SC and i always disconnect the grounds when charging them in the car. Mostly, i pull each one from the car and charge/monitor them individually. They charge better at room temp and with low voltage. Joe Bob is perfectly correct.

One more thing-

Voltage is below 10V when the car is not running which suggests that they are deeply discharged. So now my question is a little different-

Can Sonnenschein's be brought back to life when voltage is below 10V and what is the process.

Thanks.

Are they dry or wet?

If wet make sure you have the right amount of juice. You would be ahead of the game by getting one of those eye droppers with the little balls to check the electrolyte levels. Charging at an alternating high and low levels brings it back.

Dry cell batteries.....I used a 100 amp shock for an hour, then 2 map for another....alternating until I got it up over 14volts. It's been fine for the last 6 months.

If wet they will hold a "memory". If possible cycle from 2 amp, 15 amp, 60 amp and then backwards. Use an timer to remind to cycle say every 15 min. We use this process in our Car Audio demo cars and it works most of the time. Most dry cells dont carry a "memory" so they should charge to full capacity with out the cycle process
