Does buying a BMW make me any less of a person? I found a Z3 I really thought I needed today.

Z3? That's a woman's car, isn't it?
So... no, it doesn't make you less of a 'person.' ![]() Neither would a Miata, S2000, del Sol or a Cabrio.

Now, an M3--especially an E30--would be OK, and we wouldn't excommunicate you. In fact, I'd even ask you for some wheeltime.
But I would definitely rate the Z3 somewhere between a Miata and a Sebring (ouch!). If you have to have a 2-seater roadster, hmmm....I'd go for a Beck Spyder. Yum! http://www.beckcars.com/spyder.shtml

Guys--leave Not_Sure alone on his selection of a Z-3. I'm sure he is a well rounded person and exploring his feminine side.

You can find decent Boxsters in the mid 20's-30's range.

I can see a bmw for a 4door famly car maybe (I argue that with a audi quatrro Mr.Porsche son was the vice pressdent of audi at one time ) ,but a Z3 I take it you read the mag. That compared the Z3 ,BoxsterS , and Corvett . Even if the z3 beat the boxster the boxster can tuned and upgrade to exceed that. Look what Ruf did for the 911. Thats what racing all about fine tuning,And Porsche has always had one of the best aftermarket following. There's no excuse!

Hmmm, Z3 bad, M Roadster OK, M3 OK, S2000 (gotta disagree with Jack 9000 redline is not a woman's car) good.
Porsche best of all. The other cars will be good for making you appreciate a Porsche that much more. RUF has also done some work with Boxsters. I read a review of a RGT3400 or something like that. Basically it's a Boxster with the 3.4L 996 engine. Imagine same engine, mid engined, less weight. Yum!!

Just because a car can rev to 9K, or 13K (Integra?) doesnt make it carry more weight in the testosterone department!
Save your $$ for a Z-8....now thats a car! Keep on lovin' the P-car though! Nick.

no way, s2000's are sweet. Just because its Japanese and small doesn't mean its girly! I would take an S2000 over a Z3 any day.

You must be looking at a used Z3, because the prices on these have fallen faster then dot.com stock. I think the only good thing about these was the engine. The seating position is horrible, like your steering a tanker from the back. The S2000's aren't bad, unless your no taller then 5 10". Can't sit in there with a helmet on. The other post were right about the older M3's (95 and newer). Not bad cars, but no 911's. Still much more isolated then 911's.

I'm no fan of the Z3 but the M Coupe is another story. I know, it looks like a shoe, but it harkens back to the early XKE's, its original, uncommon, impractical, and fast as hell.
There's just something about that car that I've liked from the minute I saw it....on the other hand, the "roadster" version, what with its gills, humps, hips, and doodads, is just gawdy and girly. Somehow the M-coupe pulls it off though....go figure. I have a feeling I'm alone on this one. . .

Z3 is definitely girly-like, but it does have a sweet motor- buttery smooth. Inline sixes are great motors. Clutch feel/takeup is really vague.
As far as the M-Roadster goes, that thing is a hoot! Rev it, dump the clutch and watch those Michelins smoke like a forest fire. The M car is quite a change from the regular version. I pity the fool who bought an early four-banger model. Those can't be worth much of anything now (compared to original purchase price). Like 89911 stated, these cars are a fair deal on the used car market. Don't even think of settling for a non-M model. If you don't like it later, it'll still be worth something. All M cars appear to hold their value. Seating position is a little weird. Half your upper body feels like its above the top of the door (i'm 6'-0"). Kinda reminds me of driving a Jeep CJ with the doors off- you feel a little exposed. I'm with you Mike. The M Coupe breadtruck is strangely appealing to me. Must be the uniqueness (is that a word). Hey NickShu, what street car revs to 13K? I don't think early Indy-cars even revved that high!! Not much testosterone, but it's still pretty fun to rev your GSR to 8100. Always made me snicker. The crappy part was going down the highway at 4500 rpms around something like 70-75 mph. Gets old quick.

Z3? You don't park it in the same garage as the 911. Do you?

Z3 bad.
M Roadster good. S2000 Good Boxster bad. Boxster S good Miata bad Audi TT Roadster Turbo good I was seriously considering an S2000 (you don't see too many which appeals to me) or an M Roadster, but decided to go for the Pcar for sheer pleasure and cool factor.
