Mysterious electrical

1988 Carrera Special edition, A/C, 100k+ miles.

Two stubbed off wires inside the blower evaporator "cubby", one brown and one red w/white strip.

Relay socket, no relay, directly above the windshield washer pump, brown and yellow Heavy duty wires that then go to a connector, no connection, tucked away near the end of the car jack.

No non-working functions that I can find, oil cooler fan, condensor cooling fan, fog lights, horn, all work.

Anyone know the purpose of either or both of these..??

Hi and welcome!

Not sure I understand the last statement - are those items working or non-working?

The evap "cubby" is aka the smuggler's box. There should be a relay in there for the A/C evap and condensor fan control I believe. is the relay there?

Not familiar off hand with the extra socket you found, although extra connectors once in a while may have been provided in the stock harness for options.

Do you have a bentley manual?

agree with kodioneill, pics would help.

Have you hooked a multimeter on to them to see if either has power?.
Just looking at an electrical schematic for a 88, and in the luggage compartment the only brown I can see is for the "anti theft control unit" and there are several Red/white in the vacinity, lots to do with the windsheild washer and its accessories, like "Left Heated Spray Jet" (did not know that they were heated on later models).
Check if any have power first, then follow as far as you can and you should be able to narrow it down to the fuse box or a switch.

Still looking through the electrical schematic, and the brown is most likely from the grounding distribution, but have yet to find a BRN/YEL wire.

It now looks as if the relay and connector up front is for the optional windsheild washer.

And yes there is a relay in the cubby on the passenger side wall. But the stubbed off connections are just above the point where the refrigerant lines enter the fan/evaporator enclosure.
