Momo steering wheel install - help!
OK Pelicans,
I reviewed the threads with step-by-step Momo install instructions. This morning I got to work on my own car - '85 Carrera. Horn pad comes off OK, next step is to undo the nut. Here's what I see. Access to the nut is blocked by part of the steering wheel! ![]() Any ideas how to address this? I could cut off the offending middle bit of the stock wheel but I don't want to do that. I'm not sure that a bendy socket extension would have enough torque to break the nut loose. Help! Thanks, Dallas

Cutting is not necessary. And, at least on my car, that nut does not have gorilla-applied torque, it came lose with reasonable force.
A bendy socket extension should do the trick!

Thanks - will do that as soon as I fix my alarm problem... see my other thread. Basically disconnecting and reconnecting the battery triggered an old immobilizer alarm and the PO doesn't know how to turn it off. Aaaargh!

That's frustrating. Alarms are so pervasive, they seem to permeate everything. When I bought mine last year I found the remains of 2 complete alarm systems! And just two weeks ago when I had removed the belly pan to work on the steering rack I discovered ANOTHER siren!
Remove the alarm components completely and restore the integrity of the car's wiring and controls...

I have an 85 Targa and had the same steering wheel as you, I just used the 27mm socket not a deep one, with a swivel extention and went at it! Make sure you get your tires straight and lock the sterring wheel. You should be fine!

Hold the wheel as you break the nut free; I don't think you want to apply the turning force on the nut to the steering wheel lock, otherwise you make break the lock.

You are correct, I forgot to say that! However, I still locked the steering wheel to make sure and keep the general area where the steering wheel and the tires are align.

The wheel looks great. I have been tossing around the idea my self on replacing my wheel with a Momo. Have read all the pro's and con's. Seeing your setup pushes me in that direction.
Thanks for sharing.

Those are the air condition button on the right, the one of the left is to have the air recirculate. The cented button is the fader for the speakers and the little red piece is for the automatic lock. The steering wheel looks really nice!
