2.7 Oil cooler?

I am putting a 1974 2.7 liter into my 67 912. I live in San Diego with mild summers so I'm wondering if it is a must to have an addition oil cooler installed in front? If so what are the proper size lines I should install?

I needed one for my 2.7. I would install the same system as in an SC or Carrera. It is a bolt in. Just the SC loop might be enough...but it seems pretty warm in San Diego in summer to me.

Another excellent cooler for a 2.7 is the Mocal fender-mount unit. That and a Spal fan and my 2.7 never ran over 180 on the street or 210 on the track (and that was in Alabama).

I have a 2.7 in my 74 911 and I put in a 28 row brass cooler. I had a loop cooler and driving on some 95 degree days, the temps were going up to 210, with the 28 row cooler, never over 190, no matter how hard I drive. So if you are going to add a cooler, make it a good one. Oil coolers are cheap insurance so you don't have to worry about your engine temps.

If you ever go inland, you know it can be 95 degrees by the time you hit El Cajon.

I would highly recommend it. Getting stuck in traffic on a 70 degree day will shoot the numbers up. I added a cooler from BAT, Inc. They sell a complete kit with the appropriate cooler, hoses, and AN to Metric fittings. It was pretty easy to install.
