Application of Steve Wong Chip
Hi All, I have my old Steve Wong chip (911EXH) which was for my 86 Carerra with header exhaust 2 in 2 out muffler can I use that same chip in my 1987 911 with the same exhaust config? assuming that my 87 has the 24 pin and not 28 pin chip. I know there was a cutoff mid year to the 28 pin, will only know I guess once I open the DME.
Also If I do find I have the 28 pin chip will I still be able to use the 24 pin chip? I know it has something to do with 2K and 4K formatting and a jumper, I wanted to ask here first because this info may be of interest or help to other members considering this. If I can't get any help here I will reach out to Steve, who I see is always happy to help with tech issues. thanks all and enjoy this great driving weather, Johnny O |
As far as I know, all 87+ used the 28 pin and the 24 pin will not work.

After you check your DME to see if you you have an early 24 pin example, I'd suggest calling Steve if it's 28 pin. He might be able to swing some sort of deal for you.

If you send Steve your old chip he will send you a new one for a fraction of the price + shipping. Send him an email, he will work with you.
Take care. |
Your chip is a 24 pin chip. SW will likely upgrade it for a nominal fee if your DME is a 28 pin. If your DME is 24 pin you can just drop your chip in there.
My '87 was a 24 pin DME, which I converted to a 28 pin when I bought my SW chip. It's not difficult to do. |
thanks all, that will be my next step, appreciate the replies, Johnny O
