Simple Distributor Part Needed for '82 SC

After the recent discussion here regarding distributor maintenance, I decided to follow suit and lubricate the thing. Long story short, I decided to also "fix" one of the two clips that hold down the distributor cap and I guess all the heat cycles made it brittle.

Anyone have a suggestion for me as to where I can get a replacement clip for less than the $650 it would cost to replace the distributor? I've already checked with our host.

Thanks,

If Pelican can't get it call Stoddard

Thanks - I'll give Stoddard a call in the morning.

Okay guys,

I've been looking for this $%^*&$* part for a while now and the best I can do is parts from a 2.7 distributor. Can anyone tell me if the clips that hold the cap on the distributor from the 2.7 will fit my SC distributor as well?

Thanks,

Mark.

Is there any way you can post a close-up picture of a side view of your remaining good clip next to a machinist's rule? If so, it ould help to give you an answer, since I have both 2.4 and 2.7 disributors here. And, several VW Beetle dizzy's, too.

There is also a possibility that the spring clip from an air-cooled VW distributor would also work! It does not have the long finger-grip tab, but that could be removed and pop-riveted to the VW clip ... it is the spring part that is important. If the length is correct, the VW part could be used directly, but a screwdriver or other prying device is needed to remove the cap, once the clip is secured.

Thanks, Warren,

Warren,

Here is the photo (newbie thinks) and I would be curious as to 2.7 compatibility. I have taken John Walker up on his most generous (as usual) offer to send me the clip and get me back on the road....

Cheers,

Mark,

The 2.4/2.7 clips are smaller.

From 'tangent' point to 'tangent' point ... where yours appears to be 1-5/16" ... mine is 1-1/8".

Nice going, John!

Some people are leaders in turning this part of the world into a class act.

Warren,

Thanks for checking for me - I learn more every day about this project.

Ron: Well said. My sentiments exactly. It's not even the first time that John Walker has (unsolicitedly) bailed me out. What a guy!!! I only wish I was closer to Seattle to have such a stand up wrench!

Hello

Check your local junk yards for other Volkswagen, Mercedes or BMW cars from that periode. Also some Alfas, Maserati and so on shared the same izzy bites.
