removing a distributor on a 3.2 Carrera?

Have any of you guys ever removed a distributor on a 3.2 Carrera?.
Is there anything I should be aware of?.
I don't want to do anything that will mess the ignition settings up!.
I have also heard about the dangers of dropping engines with undoing things unexpectedly! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif.
Is there anything I should do before-during to ensure everything goes back right? or is it a simple strip down?.
Hoping to find something wrong with it and thereby a reason for all this walking home cr@p!
Any advice/pictures/help greatly appreciated!.
Thanks Ben

Just make sure it's pointing approximately to number 1 cylinder(notch on the dist there where the rotor points to), and note that on the crank/pulley, the notches will line up. When you put it back, make sure the rotor and the notch on the dist line up while the notch on the crank and the pulley line up.
Put some duct tape across the rotor taping it to the dist so it doesn't spin too much when you pull it. Then it'll just slip right back in.

Exactly what I did and it was suprisingly simple. There is a O-ring seal where distributor meets top of where it is inserted. You might want to buy this before and change as mine was bad.
