Does anyone recognize this part?
It fell out of one of my 2 large hoses from the back of the engine. From which end of which line and which direction does it point. I found in with the hoses as I picked them from a box. Its an 85. thanks Doughttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273200648.jpg

Looks like an oil breather check valve. Never had it out.
|
That's what it is. It goes in the hose about 6-8" from the oil tank, there is two clamps in line on the breather hose.
|
The narrow end of the cone points towards the oil tank.
|
it keeps the engine from dying when the oil cap is removed.

my $0.02....I just replaced my breather hose and was surprised to find this part as I wanted just to replace this hose section with any hose following the replacement of the breather hose...narrow section was pointing toward the engine in my 81 SC....orientation may be important, otherwise why make an elaborate nice part when a simple disc obstruction would do?.....best

The cone shape prevents oil from splashing up there in the hose and then coming down on the other side, in the air box.
The oil that would still make it through the cone will likely come back down in the tank, if the cone is pointing the right way. Nice upgrade for the older models that see lots of cornering Gs. -Guillaume |
elaborate?
