Pertronix Electronis Ignition install Q's
I bought this elect ingnition kit from our host & I am having difficulties installing it & was hoping someone can help me out...
1. the donut shaped black magnet that goes around the center dist shaft does not slide down far enough to then allow the distributor rotor to slide down far enough on the shaft to allow it to engage with the notch out on the shaft so the rotor stay in position... I was thinking of cutting 4 sm pcs off of the top of the donut to allow the magnet to hopefully slide down the distributor shaft further, thus, allowing the rotor to also slide down further allowing it to engage on the shaft...is this a good idea or will I turn the black donut magnet into "fubar" in short order...?? Thx guys!! Also, I hope these help to better stabilize idle & overall running of engine...any comments on this are also welcome... Bob |
I remember, when I installed mine I had a similar issue, but it ended up fitting.
First I'd double check to make sure you have the right model for your year Porsche. After dbl. checking this, make sure you have the magnet right side up. Then try rotating the magnet 360 deg. while pushing down, it should drop down at some point. The magnet should not be able to rotate freely on the shaft when installed correctly. |

The magnet only allows 1 side on as it has the 4 flat surfaces just like the dist shaft...so, when I push the magnet on, it stops going down as the top surface is ONLY round...that is why I was wondering if I should make the top have 4 flat sides like the bottom side of the magnet to allow it to slide down further on the shaft...what do you think...?? I know for sure I have the magnet engaged to the 4 flat sides of the shaft...dang magnet just won't go down far enough to allow the rotor to grab the notch cut out of the top of the shaft to key it into position...arggggggg What do you think about "modifying" the magnet...?? pelican says 912, 65-69 with bosch dizzy 205, 009 and 050... I will now go see what dizzy the car has... crossing my fingers here... |

Can anyone chime in if I should modify the top side of the magnet to allow it to slide down further...?? Thx, Bob |
