911sc serial number question
 

so the serial on my engine has 7 numbers and decodes 659 for a 911sc.. Do all have serial numbers have a star on each side stamped in.. I believe this engine to be a factory crate engine from the 90's .. trying to figure how to prove that..
also lists 930/06

Help if you know about the number or the stars..

659xxxx was a 79 SC engine as is the 930/06. As I understand it, replacement motors did not have any serial number stamping on them.

and the stars on either side.. do all engines have those??
Someone else told me that the replacement engines had no serial numbers too.. This engine was built at the factory in the 90's... maybe no way to ever prove that...

Don't know if they did that since the company started producing cars, but for the SC and beyond I think the answer is yes.
What history of the car do you have and why do you think the engine was built at the factory in the 90's? Perhaps the engine was restored in Germany but they would not use 1979 engine serial numbers on a new 3.0 engine being assembled during a restoration. You might want to get a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA. That should at least tell you the engine number that matches the chassis VIN.

hmm could be an engine resto from germany, i know it came from there, was built for a major league baseball player in the 90's .. Engine has all updates etc, chain tensioners, higher comp pistons, and a euro fuel distributer etc.. This i know.. and its perfect.. The kind of perfect a factory does.. How do i get in touch with PCNA?

good luck. The COA is about $100 bucks. I'd call them first to find out the best route. The engine might not match the VIN and then you have no info on the engine, are out $100 bucks and have to keep searching.

sorry for a quick off topic question to the OP.

I'm in Australia but have been half interested in getting a COA for my Carrera. Would I go through this same route (ie the USA website) or does the German factory do them for Australia? thanks

My car is a USA car, and when I bought it in 1992, I wrote to Porsche in Germany, and received a nice letter back from Porsche Technical Services. The address on the letterhead is:

7140 Ludwigsburg

You car is RHD, so I doubt Porsche USA will be of much help... so I'd try the Germans!
