Life of steering bearing qwik-fix sleeve

It's only been a year or so since I put in the qwik-fix sleeve to improve the up and down play in steering wheel on my 82SC. It seems it's time to repeat the process. First I heard a little scraping noise in wheel when turning, then after that went away, a few days later the play came back.

Tiem to do again? I guess the actual bearing should be replaced, buth this is easier.

How long should these plastic sleeves last?s

Paul,

This time replace the steering bushing with Pelican Part - PEL-ML-STR
Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-ML-STR

I promise you, you won't have this problem again... When you click on the link you'll also see some reviews. I hope this helps...

BTW: I hope it's not your roller bearing, the roller bearing only removes from the the bottom of the steering tube. If you feel like the bearing has seize up you might try and work in some light oil before installing the new bushing. However either way I would try the self lubricating Nylon bushing before doing anything with the roller bearing.

Does anybody know whether the "Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-ML-STR" fits on a 72 steering shaft? I have a lot of play in mine.

Thanks

/Christian

Christian,

This fix is only for later cars. There are threads on here about fixing the earlier cars like yours.

Christian,

That part is not suitable for us.

There is a Spring and Bushing that you need. Mitch Leland is almost ready to introduce the bushing (which is NLA). The spring (PN 914-347-713-00) is a special order here and costs $1.25.

HarryD has it right... we're just a few weeks away from having the "split ring bushing" ready to go for the early cars. 4 of our member have been road testing the bushing with great results. The proto-type bushing are being returned for evaluation. If everything checks out we'll stock Pelican Parts with inventory in the next 2-3 weeks.

Hello Harry

Thanks for the reply and the photo. I took of my steering wheel and realized that the bushing was in the wrong end of the spring. I placed it as shown on your picture and then there was no real play left. Thanks!
