Help! Can't remove hood crest
I'm currently stripping my 86 911 Targa down to repaint it and have run into trouble with the hood crest. I attempted to remove the nuts with an 8mm ratchet and they are just spinning. Is there anything special that I need to do to get the crest off?

They should back out. If not, pry the nuts off and replace. They are very soft.
|
I had to use some long nose pliers to get them off. Grabbed the nut and pulled while turning got them off.
|
Sweet. I'll try the long nose pliars and if that fails I'll try a bit of prying. Thanks for the advice!

Try prying them a little bit while turning them. Often nuts will strip the first little bit, but when they bite by prying them a little bit, they screw right off.
|
If nothing else works try a heat gun on the back side just case someone used a little hot glue to help keep it on.
|
if all else fails, break of the studs and replace the crest. (crests from an 86 are not that collectable)
A respray looks better with a new crest anyway. |
Don't pry the nuts off but gently pry the badge while backing off the nuts...the studs are not threaded and the nuts will just turn without a bit of pressure. The badge will bend so be careful.
