a little off topic but its about wheels and about wheel fans...

did they ever or do they make wheel fans for the deep 6's? i know i need to get rid of those wheels, but in the interim i'd like to do something with them and i love the look of wheel fans.

Thanks,
Joe

Personally, I love BBS RSes. I am 34, so I definitely don't fit into the younger crowd anymore, but I don't think I'm officially in the older crowd, either. I like the centers with caps, and, what I call "BBS gold" looks good to mine eyes too. A good way to update a set would be to try a different finish on the centers... Maybe like that "black chrome" that is available nowadays (depending on the color of the car, of course).

Hmmm...thats odd...

When I use quick links and look up subscribed threads, this thread shows up...but with zero replies...

Yet, when I look for new posts, this thread shows up with 20 replies...

Thats really odd :). I thought that this thread was going nowhere... what a pleasant surprise. I have to say, some of the wheels with body colored centers look stunning!

Gilby Gilby Gilby....

{Not a fair comparison!!!!!!!!!! The motorsport wheels ARE the real deal but we ain't talking about those!!}

Sorry shake and bake, just showing off. I gave a complete set of the old school BBS (gold) away a few years ago from my parts car . Hope they wer'nt worth anything. Shane, did you sell those wheels I gave you???http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273700807.jpg

How about going totally black. I think that flat black would update them quite a bit.

In college I acquired a theft recovered '87 BMW 325is that had the seats and BBS wheel caps stolen. At the time, the wheel caps went for around $100 each! That would have eaten into my profit margin quite a bit (I bought it to flip), so I painted the lug nuts black and installed the little centercaps from some 2002 steel wheels I had lying around. Always thought they turned out nice.

I like how most of the pics of the BBS wheels were taken after the 1/2 hour car wash, 1 hour wheel cleaning. Let design a wheel that gets instantly dirty and the areas to clean can only be accessed by tooth brush or Q-tip.;)

Por_sha911 05-12-2010 03:49 PM

That's the beauty of flat black.

Hey

on my car are a set of rs look-a-like 3 piece wheels. They look identical, except they say "ARE" on the centercap.

The only reason I think they look incredible is that my car is painted a beautiful gold color. I think I saw someone post a car that had almost identical paint and it was called champagne.

Problem is that since my car (81 targa) was originally red, I don't know what the exact color actually is.

But, the gold centers with the polished lips look phenomenal.

On a car of a different color, blech!

However, as to the design - beautiful. I love that basket design. I'm 32 now. Always have, always will.

I am also 34, and I agree with you almost completely. I don't like "black chrome," LOVE the gold, and love them color matched to the car. I have a set of silver BBS RS's on my E30 BMW and am building a set of gold 17x7/17x9 BBS RS's for my 911. I think that the center caps are a visual necessity.

Yesterday, I was able to buy a Carrera dirt cheap, partly because the gold wheels were 'off-putting' to other potential buyers. Rather than just changing the centers, I'm thinking of a full silver-grey powdercoat.

Anyone done that on one piece BBSs?

I like my BBS Motor Sports. You can pick up a mounted 17x11 with two fingers.

Those look like 16" centers with taller wheel halves (custom made?). Do you have any more info? Who built them?

Geronimo '74 06-16-2010 12:47 AM

Why anybody would want to put a tire on a wheel that is very obviously NOT the right size and then go and drive it around, is beyond me...

"Yeah dude, that wheel is 8 inch wide..."

"What size tire did you put on it?"

"165/60 16, why do you ask?"

"'Cause it's clearly not hte right size for that wheel and it looks stupid..."

Don't get me wrong, I DO like BSS wheels, I just like to see them fitted with the right tires...

Nice pic, that last one, just wish he would have taken the trouble to put his centercap the right way up...

The VW boys call it "Stretch". It originated in Europe... Because people wanted to put wide wheels on a slammed car with minimal rubbing.
I personally like the look if not overdone.

The Japanese drift boys do the same but on much bigger rims.
They also put the tires on backwards to lesson the grip for drifting.

Those are BBS 3-piece racing wheels since the -RS was not available for my '01 C4 when it arrived at POE.

My seafoam (light metalic green) '78 Targa has BBS-RS wheels, gold center, as does the Forest green '79 Targa I gave to a friend. My '92 Burgandy LS400 also has BBS-RS wheels w/gold centers. My daughter's gold F/awd Gold T&C minivan had perfectly matchins gold center BBS-RX. I have a set of BBS-RXes for our '88 Carrera special edition, diamond blue, but haven't yet decided what color/tone to repaint the centers, so they remain in storage.

I'll be 70 next month.

Those crazy Europeans, tsk tsk tsk...

And what about those Japanese....:):)

I wonder if they do some hard cornering, don't they pull the tire of the wheel??

Great car, Bill. Enjoy!
