Question Favorite Repair Manual Suggestions

I was wondering if anyone has any repair maunuals they might recommend for a 1973 911T. I have a Haynes 911 repair manual and their restoration one as well, both are really useless. I was thinking about getting a set of Factory Repair Manuals and was curious to know if their worth the money? I'd like to start with something a little less pricey . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Stephanie

For a 73 911, I really don't think you can do any better than the factory manuals. However, they are not cheap, or at least a new set is not cheap.

You might do well to keep an eye on Ebay and see if a used set surfaces. In addition, you might consider purchasing some of the earlier editions of the Porsche Club of America's technical compilations, Upfixin' Der Porsche; you can find them at http://www.pca.org ...

Best of luck with your car ...

I have an 81 SC Targa and I almost bought the Bentley Manual till I read several posts on them. I have owned my car about 1 1/2 years and finally bit the bullet and bought a set of workshop manuals from Pelican (yesterday). I have the manual on microfiche. It's ok, but it's hard on the eyes to read (you have to have a microfiche reader or use one at the library) and the quality of pictures are not very good. I would recommend buying the manuals.

Like me, you are caught between the tomes that Porsche wrote and the third-party missives of the unenlightened Haynes bunch. Unlike me, however, you have no Bentley manual which, despite what Deerwd says, is actually pretty useful (but not at over $100.00!).

You must create your own manual using binders, hole punch, and massive internet searching. I keep several binders on each car I own that contains the wisdom from this 'board, specific pages of UpFixin, Excellence, and other bits and pieces. It does work, though falling quite short of an engine rebuild.

I finally broke down and bought the factory manuals for my '72. I really hated to have to buy the second set just to get one year. I haven't quite got used to them yet. It appears you start in the last manual looking for your information, and if you don't find it work backward through the years until you come to when it was first introduced (say in '69). The manuals are not difficult to read or understand, but they are also not super detailed as far as how to info goes. They assume you have had the training and already know how to work on these cars.

I also keep a ring binder of articles I've printed from this BBS. I've got some articles from last year that applied to my '72 S that I saved in a Word document. I'd be happy to mail it to you. Unfortunately, all the hard effort that Warren and others put into their posts was lost recently so you won't find a whole lot by searching.

Just a reminder if you read something useful, be sure to save it or print it. Nothing on the Internet seems to last forever.

Greg I thought the loss was just temporary, you're saying the old posts are gone for good? Sure glad I spent a few hours back in March going through all the old postings on here and printing out everything I thought useful. I have 2 binders of postings from this board!

I don't know. I hope it is only temporary. I did a search recently and was unable to find some of the old posts.
