Load up the Juice and let's go! Another travelog cross-country roadtrip - awesome. Keep it comin'.

Baby 05-14-2010 10:19 PM

Looks like a great trip. Try not to stay out of too much trouble!

(Guzzis are great---I've got a 2000 v11 Bassa. Nothing quite like them...)

juicersr 05-15-2010 04:44 AM

Thanks guys, glad u are enjoying

Pete, thanks for reminding me... to wet your whistle at the Middlegate Station bar, tradtion from time immemorial was to sign and staple a dollar bill to the cieling. There gotta be at least a zillion dollar bills dating back over hundred years. pretty cool.

Wellll, due to our extended high speed shennnaningggans, needless to say, the rear tire of the Guzzi was taking a pretty good beating.. not enough twisties to balance out the straights was creating a pretty big 'chicken strip' No problem, the town about 90 miles from Eureka, Ely, according to my trusty iphone, had a 'big' yamaha/suzuki store which surely would carry the world most common rear street tire... the 180 or 170/17. WRONG!!! We got to ELY after riding and driving, well, pretty much like we had been doing the entire trip, with the Guzzi rear almost to the thread, only to find that this dealer didn't stock tires!!!! A whole showroom of sportbikes in the place, but no tires. WTF??!. So after looking at the map and making some calls, i located a bike shop in Cedar City, Utah, which was only a little out of our way, but 200miles away!

Soooo, we set out, expecting the rear tire of the Guzzi to go any minute, doing the slowest 200 miles of our lives, riding the front of the bike and weaving back in forth over the desereted highway to wear the sides. At least the scenery was good!!

Anyhow, finally got the bike to a Honda dealer in Cedar Falls, where we had to take the rear off ourselves, as the guys there had never worked on a Guzzi
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273923149.jpg

While they were mounting the tire, i checked the weather through CO. I guess everything happens for a reason... there was a big storm moving into the mountains and they were predicting a huge dump on I70 along our previous route through CO. While the Carrera would have been great, any riding on the Guzzi would have been impossible.

So, we did some quick calculation. We were pretty close to 'Boring 40' in Arizona, but as the weather south was fine, we reluctantly, we decided to set off south to detour CO. But hey, on roadtrips, gotta go with the flow

Turns out, was one of the hightlights of the trip, as we passed through Zion national park which is stones-throw from Grand Canyon at border of UT/AZ

I can tell you that southern UT has some of the best scenery and roads in the country. Looking forward to the update. Sorry, shameless photo plug.:rolleyes:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1273930660.jpg

Where the pix man? The pix!:D

Scott, no worries man, it's all good, the more road trip pix the better. Beautiful shot and beautiful ride. Must have been fun to hit those roads in your longhood.

BTW, funny how when u r driving through the backroads of NV/UT, 120mph doesn't really seem all that fast anymore:rolleyes:

Thanks Jim! Gotta use embed more.

Didn't get much footage of Pete cause the fcuker was too fast!

juicersr 05-15-2010 07:52 AM

Well, i had never heard of Zion national park... sounds like a fringe religious group area to me, but we had to cut through it to get to Flagstaff and I40.

However, it was simply incredible. The scenery was amazing, with geological formations knda lika a combination of Grand Canyon and Arches National Park.

Once again, Simply awesome.

Really nice Carrera. It's sitting nice and low - probably tired from all the running :)

What's the project about?

How long is a trip like that? I might have to do that later on.

Moving "over there" in a couple of months.

Thanks for posting

Jesper

LA to NC is about 2600 miles by the most direct route (i.e., boring interstates). Following relatively close to legal speeds will take 34-38 hours maybe?

Backsroads and short cuts? I ain't sayin' nuttin:cool:

YMMV;)

Canada Kev 05-15-2010 02:49 PM

A few years ago, I moved across Canada from Edmonton, Alberta to Halifax, Nova Scotia. And then back again less than a year later after a divorce. It's about 3100 miles, and by myself it took a bit less than four days driving mostly daylight hours. It was no where near the adventure it could have been, though I was by myself on the way back and going, I just wanted it over.

Anyway, we all are living vicariously through you. So have a good time, dammit. Cheers.

Jesper! How are u my friend? How is your project coming? Are u going to be able to bring a complete car over here when u come, or will it be in pieces?

As for the future project with this car, i'll fill u in only if u stop by Wilmington for a beer;)

When do you arrive in the US?

Actually, due to our 'detour' through Norcal, and Nevada and Utah 'backroad and shortcuts;)' will end up with 3500 miles

juicersr 05-16-2010 04:15 AM

Well, after our sojourn through Zion (made the girlfriend happy with a short hike) we pushed on to highway 98 and made our way through grand-canyon country down to Arizona and Flagstaff.

As we pushed further south through this great scenery, the winds got heavier and heavier, and the dust thicker and thicker. At dusk, the shape of the surrounding rocks which had been wind eroded over millions of years looked like some huge alien spaceships.

Anyhow, we made finally made it to Flagstaff, only to find that I40 was closed for the night due to winds gusting up to 80-90 mph, as some tractor trailers had been turned over in this! We tried to drive it for a few miles, but on the bike it was misery. The trucks were lining the road, so every 100 feet, the wind would hit you like some giant air hose and litteraly almost push you sideways!

Anyway, we bedded down for the night in the best place we could find, the 'Navaho lodge' whose motto should be 'When only the best won't do'

Weary dogs
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274007078.jpg

Well, when we woke up the next morning, the road was open, but high winds we still going, along with tons of dust.

I wish i could show you guys lots of pix of great roads we were planning to take in Utah and CO, but the road trip gods were not with us this time, as the weather continue to be miserable. At this point, due to time, Pete and i decided to 'put the bit between our teeth' and make the run straight from Flagstaff to NC.
I40 is known as 'Boring 40' for a reason... there is litterally NOTHING much to see and arrow straight cop filled roads from AZ to NC. We slogged mile after mile after mile, with the Carrera running point with the Valentine 1 saving our asses time after time at the speeds we were making.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1274007814.jpg
One funny story tho of note, soon after this pix was taken at a lonely fueling stop in Oklahoma, I was 'called out' by a some redneck obviously out on a date in his clapped out Mustang with 20' bling. Even in all of it's road grime, this redneck saw the Carrera as a 'Porsha' that needed to be challenged. Needless to say, the 25 year old Carrera wasted him, and not just pulled him, but left him standing as we went well into illegal speeds. As i slowed up, the guy pulled up to me and gave me the finger!!! This pissed Pete off, who then pulled ahead of the guy, slowed down on the bike and proceeded to moon him!!!! :D wish we had a picture. Needless to say, this Okie idiot was incensed, and nearly killed himself getting past me to get off at following exit. As this happened around midnight, at least we woke up a little more!

juicersr 05-16-2010 05:05 AM

After 48 hours of riding and driving (interrupted only by about 5 hours of sleep in a flee-bag hotel at the OK/AR border in which Pete slept in his leathers, LOL) we rolled into Raleigh, NC at about 2am Friday morning. Checking into our hotel, the road trip came to a surreal but fitting conclusion when Pete was ignominously accosted by a crack-head in drag singing some crack-head song.

Anyway, after 3500 miles of fun, road grime and splatting bugs, finally home in Wilmington, ready for her first bath:

There is nothing quite as satisfying as washing any car, but especially one as fun as a 911, that has faithfully taken your through a long road trip. Reflecting on all the miles and memories that will remain in your databank forever, scrubbing away all the dirt and looking over 'battle scars' from the trip brings a satisfaction like no other.

Bling-bling! A little better than before with some enthusiastic assistance from my son Thor

Hope you guys enjoyed it!SmileWavy

jsveb 05-16-2010 08:23 AM

So you have a son named Thor.

You've got to take him to the home of the vikings (I mean the real ones...) You are always welcome.

My house is just about to miles away from a church with the oldest church bell in northern europe. Little did they know (The Vikings), that they brought doom upon themselves.

No more hijacking.

Thanks for sharing

Jesper
