fiberglass watershield covers

Does anybody know if the fiberglass (amber in color) watershield air filter covers are still available anywhere? I remember seeing somewhere on this forum that someone was making them. That's for your help.

Tom

Steve W. says they leak (dirty) air into the motor.

I reinforced mine (CF ones) with Al hexcell. Otherwise, you need to take them off except at car shows, or use the metal ones.

I'm told they distort too much for that.

Why not just lay a good thick layer of glass with mat reinforcement into the inside top of the cap? Would add about 1/4" thickness and make them substantially stiffer. Just wouldn't be as "see-through"... unless that's why people want them? I assumed it was to match the look of the clear RSR shroud.

While its a bit more work, one can also add a good thick layer of grease on top of the rubber to seal it against the FB with a minimum of pressure.

Years ago, I used to do just that on my off-road racing motorcycles with excellent success. It worked very well for the Baja 1000 and Mint 400,.....

FG reinforcement might work - it would certainly make it easier for a layer of grease to seal.

I'd rather have some fragments of grease go down my tubes than have stick-on foam tape pieces go down the hatch.

Al hexcell adds little wt. but I appreciate that not everyone believes in overkill.
