You know this spoiler?
Just migrated from 951 to 911 SC a couple of weeks ago.
My 83 SC has front and rear spoiler in turbo style, but I am not sure about the origin of my rearspoiler. It is fiberglass and looks aftermarket to me. The previous owner however claims it is original Porsche. Did Porsche ever built this kind of spoiler/engine-lid combination?

Looks like a 1974-1977 Turbo spoiler.

It looks like an aftermarket combination of the first generation and the second generation tea tray style.

That is a Turbo tail from a '75-'76 930. In '77 they went to double grills that were more equal in size.

Leland =) You're discriminating the people who own mere T's or E's or S's :P
But on that spoiler thingie, I think that spoiler is very desirable piece, don't loose it. |

Kahuna is right as well as lundaddy. The way the second grill for the A/C condenser is arranged corresponds to the first version of the turbo whale tail. However that lip shouldn't be turned up like that. So it's a 75-76 whale tail with the rubber from a later tea tray spoiler.

Looks like an early non intercooled turbo spoiler with the later Whale tail rubber on it.

Yes those are ugly, poorly made and nobody likes them. I can dispose of if properly if you want to send it to me. Because I'm such a nice guy, I'll even spring for the postage

This wing loks like a copy. There are marks on the (weak?) fiberglass where the screws holding the rubber are tightened. To check if the lid is original is simple: If it has an alloy frame, it is the real thing. There were loads of copies, some excellent, but none had the alloy frame.
The rubber is NOT an original Porsche item. The upturned lip on the sides was not available on this style lid, and the 3.3 turbo rubber is way longer on the sides. Still I like it. GeorgeK |

Guys:
Is that not a picture of a 84-89 911 Carrera (the nameplate on the lid) and not one of an 83 911SC? Is this just an example of your spoiler or is this your car? I guess I am kind of confused. Eric 83SC |

Since the car is obviously a Euro/R.O.W. car (license plate and mini bumperettes), it could be a stock Carrera 3.0. That looks just like the OEM tail that was used on those (Euro-only) cars. If not, it's a transplant from an early 930/Turbo Carrera.

And I love it, do like the spoiler myself as well. But there is no aluminium frame, so it is aftermarket I guess. The nameplate does not match the model. The car has lived in Germany from 83-97 and the stayed in a barn from a Dutch guy until last month ..... It is an "ordinary" 83 SC. Quote:
Took the car for a spin on the Parking lot ... brought the digital camera. Better then working .... I am not that mutch of a cleaner... so the car is a bit dirty; they are spraying salt already here.... Happy 911-ing Maarten
