rear toe adjustment: how much?

i just replaced the trailing arms on a 73 with stock replacements. i havent had it aligned yet, but i noticed the drivers side rear tire is about 1.5 inches from the fender where it meets the rocker panel and the passenger side is about 2.5 inches (more centered in the fender opening). will a toe adjustment move the left rear tire back an inch? the spring plates are sway away units by the way. -------thanks in advance for your help, kevin

This is not something you can eyeball. You either need to set up some strings to measure it, or take your car to a (competent) alignment shop. Most people like the rear toe set to zero or slightly toed in.
