reverse troubles...help...
almost every time i go to put my car(73.5 911 T) into reverse, it wont go into gear. i than have to put it back into first, than neutral, off clutch, back onto clutch, and finally it will go into reverse with a grinding noise.
what are your thoughts on this? this happens when the car is cold or warmed up. the tranny has been completely rebuilt with new parts less than 500 miles ago. thank you. |
also, it wont go into reverse when car is off.....

Try adjusting your shift linkage.

Adjust the clutch first.
It sounds like your clutch is not fully releasing. Best, Grady |
If my clutch is not fully releasing, wouldn't i notice it when shifting into other gears? in any gear other than reverse, there is no problem when shifting into them.

Not necessairly.
If the clutch is slightly dragging, the syncronizers can compensate for the drag. Reverse does not have a syncronizer so it clashes. The not being able to go in reverse when off is likely the stationary gears butting and not sliding into place. A dragging clutch is an insideous problem as it is adding a lot of wear to your (new?) syncros. Best, Grady |
thanks for the info. i will take it in tomorrow to get looked at. hopefully the mechanic will just have to tell the car some sweet words and it will fix itself! hah! one can only hope it will be simple and easy.
