87 cab top problem/Fix
I just fixed the problem with my top not having the latch motors kick in and wanted to share the fix. Ultimately I found that the passenger side motor mounting bolts were a slightly loose. With the carpeted cover with the speakers in it was installed the motor unit moved just enough to make the arm hit the speaker ever so slightly. When the cover was off it closed correctly and I could see the motor move slightly when closing and then again when it started to open. It was so minor and the top worked fine with the cover off. Then I placed the cover on without the screw at the bottom and sure enough the top latch motors would not kick in. I opened the top all the way and tightened the motor bolts no more then a 1/16 to 1/8 of a turn to snug them up. The closed the top with cover off and worked perfect. I then placed the cover on with no screw and worked fine again. Then I put the screw in but not tight and top worked fine. Made it a bit tighter and no problems. I just could not believe that that little bit of pressure on the top frame arm would stop it from working. For all of those people who have been frustrated with this type of top problem, I hope this little bit of information might help. They are very touchy mechanisms.
Thanks, Jeff |
