Help needed to re-establish timing

In error ,I turned my engine over by hand after I removed my distributer on my 85. I have 3 timing marks on my pulley with square cut grooves spaced at 120 degrees. My engine is out of the car after a reseal. I think I need to find tdc for cyl #1 and put the distributer back with the rotor pointing to the cut mark. How should I best do that. My valve covers are back on? Thanks for any suggestions . Doug

Easy, if the engine is out if the car. Pull all the plugs out except #1 plug and hand turn it over untill it gets hard to turn, that is close to TDC so go slow and stop at TDC. Insert dissy as you stated, replace plugs.

Very clever idea.
