Can a 1970 911T 2.2 Liter Oil Thermostat be rebuilt

Just like it says. I've got the new seal from our host, and I just got the Thermostat out, and will try the new gasket and see if that does the trick. But I'm really trying to avoid dropping the $313.50 for a replacement Thermostat.

i thought i read somewhere that maybe newer car's thermostats could be rebuilt, but I didn't see anything about a 1970 911T 2.2L

yes i did try searching....

thanks for the help!

don't think they can be rebuilt. I tested mine in hot water with a thermometer during my engine build. Why do you think it is bad ?

it bubbles up oil when put under load. standing back there and watching it and pushing on the linkages to rev, like i said, i haven't tried the 2 dollar gasket fix and fingers crossed that will solve it.

what temp did you need to get it to submersed in water for it to open? did you dunk the whole thermostat, can you detail that procedure to test a little bit.

Thanks for the quick response!
Joe

Put it in a pot of water and heat it up. The piston inside should start to move at around 176 degrees. As it moves it opens up one of openings and closes off the other just before the water boils.

The new O-Ring should stop the oil from bubbling up. That is unrelated to whether the thermostat is working.
