If you have waited ($$$$) for A/C in your 911 - Priceless
 
Good afternoon. First of all I own an 87 911 Cab Wide-body - Triple Black and I live in Houston which everyone knows is very Hot!!!.

I have waited for the last three years, for my Ship to come in so I could fix my A/C the proper way however my two girls (Wife & 11 yr old) seem to spend money faster than I can make it, but that is another story in which I am sure most of you are also familiar with.

A few days ago I thought I would try the least expensive upgrades and at least see what my starting point was and this is what my results are so far. Please keep in mind I am not near as smart or analytical as most of you on this board but I still wanted to contribute and not only take from others:

New Dryer: $30
New Expansion Valve: $40
New Duct work: $30
1.5 cans Enviro-tech Industrial ES12A: $17
Evacuate and charge system: $100

Today in Houston 90 deg (high humidity)
Vent Temp using probe food thermometer: 38 deg

In my humble opinion the results are: PRICELESS!!!

For the record I probably will make some additional upgrades in the future but until then, I can honestly look forward to the Summer and hopefully this helps someone else who may find themselves in my same situation.

Did you get the ES12a local or mail order, I was going to do the same with mine.

Paul this is my second 911 that I have used this product. I do not go by the guages but just use 1.5 cans. I was only getting around 70 deg at the vents but then as I was driving it started dropping. It stabilized after around 100 miles to between 38 - 48 depending on if I am rolling or not.

On the other 4 911's I have had I never changed out all the ducts. Wow, what an improvement on air output this cheap fix made.

Glad you've gotten good results that didn't cost you much $$$.
Can you elaborate exactly what was done to the duct work?
Did you add the additional bow tie vent???

Thanks flskala! The ducts from the evaporator that run into the car, behind the cardboard piece in the trunk were very porous. Also I replaced the duct work in the kick panels that go to my side vents. I just took these to several Auto Parts store till I matched the size.

I did remove the Bowtie and put a center vent from Griffiths. If our Host sells these I am sorry.

Thanks for the info. I had a good working system until my condenser failed, this stuff looks like a good alternative to R-12. I've got a '76 which I'm trying to make as simple as possible and the big air manifold under the dash was not the look I'm going for. Now the hose just blows straight into the cabin, it works great. I put the fan and temperature switches where the fog light and rear defogger were to keep the dash clean. I don't have fogs and who needs a defogger in Houston.

Good afternoon Clexton, no pun intended. I like your idea with the Fan and Temp swiches. Sounds / looks like you have very cool car!! No pun intended.

Do you know if there are any events locally for our cars?

Hey Clexton..... if you are interested I have under dash AC vents if you would be interested in trading for the knee bars... mine are black but you could dye them or black may go with yours

Thanks, yours must be very rare, and looks great, love a black car.
I ordered my ES12a today and hope to have the ac going very soon.
I daily drive mine and it is getting too hot to drive without ac in the afternoon.
There are events going on in town, check the Tex-Mex regional forum for the latest stuff.

Nice idea. The Kuehl vent is basically what you have with a nice looking vent on the end. Its pretty inexpensive and gives a nice finished look... i like the switch idea...

I read how crappy P car AC was and when I got my 87 930 it blew cold so I thought I was real lucky, on further inspection I noticed a 12v rad fan attached to the condensor? in the tail of the car and it made sense then that it was so cold, the car came from Texas but I still love my AC even in Canada, fan might be a cheap option for guys in hotter climates
