What will replacing motor mounts actually do for me?
 

A lot of the write-ups for replacement motor mounts I've seen say they "enhance driveablility". Now this has to be one of the most vague statements I've ever read. So all advertising speak aside, what will I *really* get out of replacing my stock 36 year old mounts with the sport ones Peli sells?

Better shifting, for one.

I noticed less motor vibration at idle, assuming yours are worn and flat.

You will get the piece of mind that your engine will not fall out/drop unexpectedly!!!!

car will feel like more torque, as you have taken the flex out of the drivetrain

Also, if you're replacing the motor mounts, you should replace the tranny mounts at the same time. They're probably just as worn. With new motor and tranny mounts, the throttle response will feel immensely quicker and everything just feels tighter.

I used to notice a lot of deflection when things were hot. I guess the old rubber in the old mounts got nice and soft on long runs with high temps on 90 degree days. Now all is firm all the time.

How does it make shifting better exactly? I've read this but never really seen it explained as to why. My car takes forever to go into 1st thru 3rd gear. It's to the point where I just place the shifter where it's *suppose* to be, and basically wait for the transmission to accept the shifter and go into gear.<p>If motor and trans mounts can fix that, then my happiness is eclipsed only by the embarrassment of not doing it earlier.

What is "deflection" in car terms?

Your drivetrain (engine/transaxle) are connected to the shifter/linkage. If the drivetrain is flopping around, your shifter/linkage can't find the "sweet spot".
