oil leak mistery

OK; 77 911s 2.7 with the usual upgrades.
I have always had the two or three drops marking it's favorite parking locations,
but the other day it became a five inch puddle. I checked and found oil inside the
engine compartment on the left side on the timing chain cover and below the tin
covering the entire left side of the motor. Carrera tensioners
have been installed. I originally thought it was coming from the oil temp sending
unit. I took it out and cleaned and teflon taped it and reinstalled it the 15 lbs
The leak was no better. On the way to Infinion Raceway Sunday for the historics
I was blowing clouds of smoke. I used almost 4 quarts in 200 miles. When I got
home I cleaned everything up and found that a engine tin bolt was missing causing the tin to press up on the oil feed line on the left hand tensioner. I took it
out cleaned and reinstalled. Topped off the oil and don't see a leak yet. I;m afraid there might be a small crack in the feed line. Reno next weekend and want the car for those mountin roads.

any similar experiences out there??

thanks
Kenny

While its still clean, spray some leak tracing powder around the suspect area. Then take a sprited drive & check where its wet w oil.
Fix this before ANY long trip.
