DME relay mounting bracket...
I need the bracket that holds the DME relay under the drivers seat for my 88 Carrera.
It's been missing for years but I would like to get it secured to the car. Any got one they dont need, I would love to take it off your hands, I cant find it listed on Pelican |
Mines broke, too. I think you need to buy the whole harness that the bracket is connected to.

you don't need to buy a wiring harness to get the bracket. The bracket is a very simple, small metal piece that slides into the actual DME relay, then gets bolted to the floor. When you buy a new DME relay, the bracket comes attached to it already (although it can be slid on or off).
You could probably fabricate one pretty easily with some thin metal strips that you can get at any hardware store, and some tin snips. I'd think that a dismantler would have them around for a couple of bucks, if you could talk one into taking the time to dig around and find one. It's probably a good idea to bolt the relay down and not have it rattling around under the seat. That's probably not great for it. It does get warm, and there are soldered connections, etc. inside that could break. |
I've got one from my old original DME relay that I can send you.
PM your address. Tom |
A great application for double-faced foam tape.

For those of you struggling to get the bracket to slide in to the relay, a colleague pushed a small screwdriver in the bottom to flex the plastic a little, enabling the bracket to slide in. It took a few minutes to get it to fit.

A bit of weatherstripping attached to the relay may also help to dampen vibrations that seem to eventually kill the solder joints in the older relays, leaving you with a dead car.

If you aren't carrying a spare DME relay, buy one and use the mount from it. The little metal mount comes with the new relay. It never hurts to have a spare in the car for when (not if) your DME relay craps out.
