Early Steering Wheel Pad Removal
I have an early (1968) 912 Steering Wheel, and cannot seem to get the horn pad removed. I am used to the later wheels which have pads that just pop off. This one seems unwilling to pop off or twist, can anybody help me with how it is supposed to be removed? I don't want to break the plastic in the process. Thanks!

It comes off in the same way as the later 'butterfly' horn pads - press down on the horn button (ie towards the steering wheel) whilst twisting it anti-clockwise & it should release.

Thanks, I tried that, and the horn button doesn't want to budge. There is some play in it (1/4 inch turn in each direction), but it won't turn any further than that. Any advise on how to persuade it?

Hi,
There is a rubber bushing inside that hardens and keeps it from moving easily. Turn the wheels to full lock and use both hands and twist hard counter clock wise. It will come off. Do not use the ignition lock but turn the wheels so you dont have to hold the steering wheel. Also, you might want to try using some rubber or latex or whatever gloves so you get a good grip. The "puck" horn pad is quite desirable by the way and yours looks in very nice condition. Good luck, Rick |

Rick,
Thanks for your help, I'll give it a shot today. I know they're worth a good bit, that's why I'm so worried about cracking it.
